Look LJ, a selfish meme! Just what you wanted from me! :D
Okay really, I'm just trying not to go to bed before nine. I know I'm pathetic, but there's a line between pathetic and downright ridiculous.
1. How about a brief introduction of yourself?
... Hi internet, you know me as Athena. I live in Canada, also known as the land where you will never be able to hook up with any of your fandom friends. I enjoy snow and programs about sea slugs.
2. And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
I'm gonna come right out and admit it: Star Trek TOS. Back in 6th grade, before I knew what fanfic was, I used to write Spock h/c on my mother's huge laptop listening to Escaflowne midis. Needless to say, I never did anything with it and I'm sure it got wiped when the laptop was refreshed. Just as well for all concerned.
3. What kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
Sadly I haven't changed much from my grade 6th self, and continue to write mostly h/c. I've been having a few random stabs at romance in the past couple of years, but I prefer it more as a sideline than the purpose of the fic.
4. Do you tend to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom whore?
Both. I'm a fandom butterfly, but generally I only focus on a few characters or one pairing per fandom.
5. What is your most popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so?
Probably Heavy Silences because itshockingly managed to introduce a lot of tension and then solve it all pretty neatly. Or, you know, because Kid got to be cool.
6. Forget other people...what is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of?
It's probably an unfair choice because I didn't spend a lot of time or thought on it, but I really like Nibelheim. I dunno, I think it really covers the creepyevilcrazy of that town, especially since we never really get any good answer re wtf is going on there.
7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing?
I find it easy generally, but maintaining the energy/interest to finish long fics (over 2 chapters) hard. Also making fics longer by putting in side stories. I am terrible at side stories.
8. Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.
Haha, do I even have one?
"Sometimes," grits out Otacon, hands clenched tight on the controllers and ankles so stiff he can hardly tell how hard he's pressing down on the pedals, "it scares me how much you trust me."
"When you spend your entire life jumping out of foxholes at some bastard's command, you get used to it." Behind his seat, he hears the click of Snake's lighter. With the wind whistling in through the bullet-holes in the glass, he can't smell the tobacco yet.
"That's not really reassuring." The helicopter's nose is tilted down towards the dark trees for speed; in its curved windshield Otacon can see Snake, the glowing ember of the cigarette in his mouth lighting his face. The soldier shrugs and grins, changing tactics.
"I was pretty sure you'd at least make it out of the compound."
"That isn't reassuring either."
9. Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches that you're sick of?
Not that aren't already publicly accepted as such.
10. Are you guilty of any of these? Or have you committed other crimes?
I don't think I've ever committed major cliche crimes. I do jay walk a lot, though.
11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you continue to like/participate in it?
Well I already mentioned Star Trek, but I wasn't in the fandom. The first fandom I participated in was Escaflowne, and while I still like the show I don't write for it/participate in the fandom anymore (is there even one these days?).
12. Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
13. What would you call your writing "style"?
Start a million things and never finish any of them. Unless you mean more in the sense of text, in which case have a lot of non-complete sentences that I later hate on re-reading and insert a subject into.
14. Do you read other people's fanfics? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
I used to read a lot of fanfic. These days I hardly read any at all, which is kind of sad.
15. Name one thing you'd LOVE to write but haven't yet.
THE CONCLUSION TO HEAVY SILENCES OH MY GOD WHY.
16. Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have a really bloated ego?
Well I'm pretty sure if I did I wouldn't say yes... XD I generally like receiving criticism because it shows people are actually reading rather than mindlessly complementing, and while mindless complements are nice it's kind of depressing to realise that the next fic on the site with no plot and terrible spelling and 5 Mary Sues received the same complement from the same person. Also I make a lot of typos, so critique is handy there. ^^;;. I can find reviews that blame me for things which aren't true or are highly subjective a bit irritating though.
17. When you write is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room?
Really depressing music. Sarah McLaughlan is good. I actually have a "sad music" playlist that I listen to while writing. Maybe this is why all my fics are so gloomy. Sometimes I listen to upbeat stuff... Occasionally. :D
18. What inspires you?
All sorts of things. Could be the entire concept behind a show, to one line I read somewhere. I try to write them down. But when I find I don't have any new ideas for fics I try to watch some new shows or read some new books. That often helps.
19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer?
Slowly improving. Looking back on how far I've come since I even started posting stuff on ff.net ten years ago (cringe) it's amazing. My goal was to start even just thinking about original fiction when I could look back on stuff I wrote two years ago and be impressed by it. I'm starting to get to that point, although I'm nowhere near there yet. Also I still have no interest in OF, so even if I thought I was decent enough that it was worth thinking about, I have no desire to do so.

- MGS: Dave/Hal: I know I'm a sap, but I think they're really romantic. Also they just need each other so badly.
- Magic Kaitou: Kaito/Aoko: They have a love triangle going on with only two people. How could that not be awesome?
- Petshop of Horrors: SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION. Also the snark. Also I thought up a new theory the other day: D has chosen Leon as his partner because he knows Leon's strong and stubborn enough to accept the truth re animals=people, which pretty much no one else would be. I may expand on this over on my personal LJ someday.
- Saiyuki: Sanzo/Goku: It doesn't necessarily have to be a romantic/sexual relationship, but the depth of feeling that exists between these two gets me every time.

Date: 2011-01-19 08:39 am (UTC)Also, nowhere in this entry do you mention the fandom of the very first fanfic you showed me!! xD I shan't speak its name because perhaps you don't want the world to know about it hahaha.

Date: 2011-01-20 02:36 am (UTC)I found this pretty ironic though: and 5 Mary Sues received the same complement from the same person. Also I make a lot of typos, so critic is handy there. --> Ahem, *compliment and *critique XD
